The police in Edo State on Sunday disrupted the factional meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party in Benin, the state capital.

The development marked the second time the police would disrupt the meeting of the Chief Sunny Uyigue-led PDP faction.

The presence of policemen at the secretariat made the party leader to hurriedly read his prepared speech without the usual room for questions from journalists after the speech.

In a statement made available to journalists Uyigue accused the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command Mr. Kachi Udeoji, of acting out the script of an individual in the state.

But a senior police officer, who spoke under condition of anomymity denied the allegation, saying that the police were at the venue of the meeting to ensure that there was no breakdown of law and order.
