The Federal Capital Territory Administration has said it would fast track the procurement process and installation of Closed Circuit Television in the Federal Capital City, Abuja, as a way of checking crimes.

It said the CCTV would be installed in strategic locations within the city to enhance security of lives and property in the city.

The FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed said this, on Thursday, while receiving the Malaysian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Melvin Castelino, who paid him a courtesy visit to commiserate with Nigerians over the October 1 bomb blast in Abuja.

Mohammed said that when installed, the CCTVs would boost security surveillance in the FCT and gave more confidence to residents.

According to him, the project was important to check the men of the underworld.

The Minister assured all members of the diplomatic community residing in the FCT of adequate security in spite of the bomb explosion that rocked the city during the 50th Independence Anniversary.

Mohammed said that Malaysia and Nigeria were development partners, noting that both countries share many similarities in terms of culture and politics.

Castelino commiserated with the Federal Government over the recent terrorist attack on Abuja.

He called for closer collaboration between Malaysia and Nigeria, stating that though the Malaysian Garden was initiated by a private organisation, the Malaysian Embassy in Nigeria wants to explore private initiative for its development.
